Scientific Foundations Behind Our Work
We are proud to share that the achievements of RSM
Armenia are grounded in solid scientific principles. This commitment has
recently been highlighted through a publication by our founder and chairman,
Suren Mamyan, in Gornyi
Zhurnal.
The article, titled “Principles of Harmonizing the
Classification of Solid Mineral Reserves and Forecast Resources of Armenia with
the UN Framework Classification,” provides an in-depth exploration of the
methodologies used to align Armenia’s mineral resource classification system
with internationally recognized standards.
This work reflects not only our dedication to
scientific rigor, but also contributes to the broader international dialogue on
sustainable resource management and the harmonization of resource
classification systems worldwide.
Workshop on Global Progress in
Optimizing Mining Processes
The workshop titled “Global Progress in
Optimizing Mining Processes” was held at the American
University of Armenia (AUA).
The event, organized by ICMA, brought together experts
and professionals to discuss recent advancements in mining processes, with a
focus on improving efficiency and promoting sustainability in the sector.
We are proud that Suren Mamyan participated
in the workshop as a speaker, delivering an engaging presentation on Responsible
Mining. His talk highlighted the importance of balancing economic
development with environmental stewardship and the well-being of local
communities.
We extend our sincere thanks to ICMA for
organizing such a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and professional
collaboration.
Discussion on UNFC and UNRMS at the
Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2026
Important discussions on UNFC and UNRMS continued
this year at the Asia-PacificForum on Sustainable Development
2026, within the framework of the side
event titled “Future Energy and Present Resources: Expert Dialogues for
the Asia-Pacific Region.”
During the side event, Suren Mamyan, PhD,
MAusIMM, Founder of ICE-SRM (RSM) Armenia, delivered an online
presentation on “Promotion and Implementation of UNFC and
UNRMS.”
The presentation addressed several key topics,
including:
▪️ Principles of harmonization between the UNFC
E-Axis and the Armenian classification system
▪️ Principles of harmonization between the UNFC G-Axis and
the Armenian classification system
▪️ Practical implementation of UNFC and UNRMS
▪️ The need for competencies: education as an opportunity
The intervention highlighted the importance of structured
and incremental alignment between national classification systems and
international frameworks, emphasizing transparency, methodological clarity,
and responsible resource management.
We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to
this important regional dialogue on sustainable resource management.
New Scientific Publication
ICE-SRM Armenia is pleased to share a new research
article co-authored by Suren Mamyan, Founder and President of ICE-SRM Armenia:
“JUSTIFICATION OF OPTIMAL BOUNDARIES OF OPEN MINING IN
THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STOCKWORK TYPE DEPOSIT”
published in Gornyi Zhurnal.
About the Study
The article presents a technical and economic
approach to defining optimal open-pit boundaries based on maximizing
profit over the life of the mine. The study determines:
- optimal pit depth
based on the equality of stripping coefficients
- boundary stripping
coefficient for open and combined mining
- contour stripping
coefficient as a ratio of quarry and stockwork projection areas
Key Findings
The results show that combined mining is
optimal; however, due to limited underground reserves, open-pit
mining alone is recommended.
Contribution
The research contributes to:
- evidence-based
mine planning
- rational
and complex resource use
- responsible
mining
